Wednesday:
Matt finished my painting for the dining room

He chose this design all on his own. But I like it because one of my favorite verses is :" Your sons shall be like well-watered plants and your daughters like pillars carved to adorn a palace."
He was going to make a girl growing flowers with flowing hair but ran out of time. Maybe next summer!

Thursday
Matt packs for school

I had to force him to buy some new things to take. I think he wants this to be his own spiritual path and wants to "take nothing" for the journey.

Dinner out at D.W. Chens
Yummy!

Friday
Dropped Matt off at Huntington

THIS is the reason we had a busy day! We were the only ones during the chapel service with squeals and "Indian" noises coming from our family. When the Chancellor said "I know you have all had a very busy day moving your student in.... I was thinking. "REally? These people had an hard day?" Sorry, but two parents and one 18 year old moving in a few boxes is not a hard day. But, as crazy as I felt with our brood running all over the campus and generally being messy, I was grateful for this crazy, wonderful family of mine.

When we left, Matt gave us a big hug and said "Thank you for being such a great family!" This was reward enough, especially after I thought we may have embarrassed him before his new classmates.

I'll know he'll have an awesome year! Love you Matt.

  1. Wow! You have quite a curriculum lined up. You never cease to amaze me in the things you teach your children! Awesome!
Matt's art piece is marvelous. He is so very talented!
I'm glad you got to enjoy some last minute things as a family before taking Matt. And no matter how noisy or messy you may have thought you were, I know Matt would not have had it any other way than for you all to be there!
    Have a great week Shannon!!

  2. Shannon,
You have such an incredible family! What a blessing that Matt IS a well watered plant -- he has such strong roots to continue to grow and thrive during this next leg of the journey. His art piece is amazing. What a treasure it must be! Hugs and prayers as you continue to pour into your beautiful family.

I know that taking Matt to school was bittersweet. Have you had your meltdown yet?
